Senators Beat Gaedels, 5-1
|
The Washington Senators downed the St. Louis Gaedels, 5-1. The hitting star was designated hitter Takeshi Esaki. Esaki was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 for the Senators. Xiong Loh went 5.2 innings, allowing no runs on 7 hits. The right-hander, who is tied for 8th in the EC in strikeouts with 82, struck out 6 and walked 1. With the win, he's now 3-6 this season. Julio Mendoza notched his 17th save of the season.
Danny Mrazek had a big solo home run for the Senators in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Washington leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a fastball from Brent Lannin, the 26th overall pick in the 2076 draft, and punished it. The result was his 5th home run of the season, which put the Senators on top, 2-0.
"Just trying to keep things simple and helping the team win any way I can," Esaki told a local reporter after the game.
Washington is now 30-41.
