Toros Fall to Friars Late
|
The San Francisco Friars had to overcome a fine effort from Tucson pitcher Miguel Moquete to win, 5-3, at Aetna Stadium. Moquete went 7 innings and allowed 1 run. San Francisco pitcher Tony Rosa earned the win, hiking his record to 1-0. Fidel Flores suffered the loss. Chris Mayea was credited with the save for San Francisco, his 1st of the season.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Bryce Gekas? The former first round draft pick Gekas stroked a 2-run double in the top of the ninth inning to put San Francisco up, 5-3. For the game, he was 2 for 5, including 1 double and 1 single.
Gekas said his team "played with determination."
With the win, the Friars improved to 35-37.
