Pike Excels, Alaska Levels Washington
|
The Alaska Kodiaks stormed past the Washington Senators, 13-1, at Tundradome. Alaska third basemanAlderaan Pike , who is tied for 8th in the WC in bases on balls with 39, led the hit parade. He went 3 for 4 with 2 home runs and 2 walks, while scoring 3 and driving in 2. Their 39-30 record puts the Kodiaks first in the Western Conference Eddie Izurieta Division.
Jae-ho Choe had a big 2-run triple for the Kodiaks in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Alaska leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from 24-year old right-handed pitcher Vinny Valdez and swatted a triple to right-center. It was his 2nd triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Kodiaks ahead, 3-0.
"We took a roundhouse punch to the chin," said losing manager Josh Cooan.
