The Santiago Avispas defeated the Miami Cyclones, 6-5, at Kroger Stadium. Leading the charge for Santiago was center fielder Daichi Sakai. He was 3 for 5 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Alex Mijangos snagged the win in relief. He goes to 4-0 on the season. Nestor Fajardo suffered the loss. Ricardo Riveron earned the save, his 20th.

Homer Hanes came through with a big-time hit for Santiago. The first baseman smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 6-5. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

"Trying isn't good enough in this league," said Sakai. "You've got to get results."

The Avispas have an impressive 50-18 record.
